Mothering Sunday has been celebrated in the UK since the 16th century. This special day falls on different dates every year. The story behind it is interesting. In the earlier centuries, young British boys and girls in service were allowed to visit their homes only on the mid Sunday in Lent. They would either bake a cake or take gifts containing eggs and flowers home to their mothers. Today, children pray for their mothers and bring bunches of spring flowers from church.
